4 Tips To Ensure That Halloween Doesn't Ruin Your Skin

Halloween is one of the best times of the year to break out of your shell and dress as someone else. On top of this, there's tons of candy to eat and lots of other interesting costumes to see. However, Halloween also provides ample opportunity for you to do some serious damage to your skin. Here are four tips for ensuring that this doesn't happen to you:

  1. Wash the Makeup Off:  If you are putting makeup on your face as part of your costume, you have to thoroughly wash it off at the end of the night. Even if you stay up late that night, you need to take the time to wash it off. If you leave the heavy makeup on, it will clog your pores, which leads to breakouts. Be sure that when washing it off, you are doing it properly. Read the instructions on the makeup that you purchased to see if there are any special instructions on removing it.
  2. Don't Use Makeup From Last Year:  When you purchase makeup for Halloween, chances are you aren't going to use the entire package. This doesn't mean that you should save it for next year. Most likely, it expires way before then. Plus, old makeup holds bacteria that is sure to lead to a possible skin infection, especially if you don't wash it off quickly.
  3. Don't Just Buy Any Makeup: There are plenty of stores that will sell Halloween makeup that is not of the best quality. When you purchase this makeup, there is a chance that it contains chemicals that are dangerous for your skin and will lead to your pores becoming even more clogged. Be sure to check the ingredient list and always be sure that it is FDA approved makeup. Ingredients you should avoid include oils, artificial dyes, and wax.
  4. Be Careful With Masks: If you are going to be wearing a mask with your Halloween costume, you don't want to wear it for a long period of time if you can help it. This is because masks often contain heavy paints that can be absorbed into your skin. If you wear it for a long period of time, you can have serious breakouts by the end of the night.

When you utilize these four tips to ensure that your Halloween doesn't ruin your skin, you can avoid major skin issues in the week following that day. Be sure to visit a dermatologist regularly to further understand your skin type, which will help you when it comes to choosing all the right products you use for your skin, even on Halloween.
